Basic Den Leader Duties

In this role you serve as the Den Leader for your son’s Den. Your duties include:

  • Prepare for your role by completing free on-line and classroom training for your position. Visit the BSA Online Training Center and obtain certificates for “Cub Scout Leader Fast Start” and “Youth Protection Training”.
  • Develop, in cooperation with the parents in your Den, a schedule of Den meetings and activities for your Den.  Ensure the activities are fun and fulfill learning and advancement goals.
  • Maintain advancement records for your Den, including ordering recognition items (patches, etc) from the Pack Advancement Chairman. Award lists are due no later than 8 p.m. on the Wednesday preceding the Pack Meeting.
  • Participate on the Pack Committee, by providing input to the plans for the Pack program (approximately 4 meetings per year).
  • Participate in one monthly district roundtable (about 2 hours in one evening.)
  • You are encouraged to wear the adult uniform for this role.
  • Keep meeting schedule up-to-date on the Pack Calendar.
  • Keep Den page up-to-date on Pack 1 web site.

Assistant Den Leader Duties

In this role you serve as the Assistant Den Leader for your son’s Den. Your duties include:

  • Prepare for your role by completing free on-line and classroom training for your position.
  • Provide support, as requested, to help the Den Leader fulfill his/her role. This may include, for example, attending Pack Committee meetings when the Den Leader has a scheduling conflict.
  • You are encouraged to wear the adult uniform for this role.
  • Prepare and run 1 Pack Meeting, with the guidance and assistance of the Pack Committee, your Den Leader, and your den, until the Pack Cubmaster role is filled.  Once the Cubmaster role is filled, provide support to the Cubmaster in preparing for one Pack meeting (e.g. purchasing supplies for the meeting, etc.) and then assist the Cubmaster in running activities during the Pack Meeting.
