Webelos

Webelos is a program for 4th and 5th grade boys that prepares them to join a Boy Scout troop while learning outdoors skills and participating in 20 different activity badges. Webelos is a gradual change from being an ‘adult-run’ den to being a ‘boy-run’ patrol ready to fit right into an adventurous scouting troop. This migration requires the parents and den leaders to give the scouts more and more control, decision-making power, and responsibility as they progress in skills, abilities, and maturity.

The goal for the Webelos I den (and first-time scouts entering the Webelo II den) will be to focus on the requirements for the Webelos Badge. For Webelos II scouts who have already completed those requirements, the goal will be to achieve the Arrow of Light, the highest award given in cub scouting. Each scout should have a Webelos Handbook. If your son does not have a Webelos book, please get one for him at any of the scout store locations or online at http://www.scoutstuff.org.

Welcome to a new Cub Scout year!

Welcome back Pack 1 Scouts and Parents,

Hope you all had a great summer and are excited about the upcoming scouting year.  Our first pack meeting will be Friday, September 9th 2011, 7:00pm at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church located at 472 Massachusetts Ave, across from the Jr. High.  We have an outstanding year planned for the Scouts and our first Pack meeting will focus on previewing the many upcoming activities.

The theme of the meeting will be recycling and water conservation.  We will have a presentation from the Acton Water District on how we can conserve water and the many free resources and rebates available to Acton residents.

Going with the recycling theme, we will be kicking off our Pack Uniform Recycling Program.  If you would like to participate, please contribute at least one uniform article (such as a scarf, slide, hat, shirt, book, belt, etc) or gently used camping gear. This will be your ticket to pick out something that you need for the upcoming year.

Update: 9/10

A big thanks to the Wolf den for being our hosts! Here are a few pictures by Sudhir Srinivasan. The first is a picture of Matt Mostoller, a former Eagle Scout who now works for the Acton Water District, explaining about water conservation to the boys. (Thanks, Matt!)
